Object AST Implementation

Objective

Implement complete object data type support in the AST system to enable object literals, property access, and object operations in XMD syntax.

Current State Analysis

  • Variable system: Object support is COMPLETE (VAR_OBJECT, variable_object_*)
  • AST system: Object support is MISSING entirely
  • Parser: No object literal or property access parsing
  • Evaluator: Cannot handle objects in expressions

Missing Core Components

1. AST Value Object Support

  • Add AST_VAL_OBJECT to ast_value_type enum
  • Add object_value to ast_value union
  • Update ast_value_create/free for objects

2. AST Node Object Support

  • Add AST_OBJECT_LITERAL node type
  • Add AST_PROPERTY_ACCESS node type
  • Add corresponding data structures

3. Object Literal Parser

  • Parse {key: value, key2: value2} syntax
  • Handle nested objects and mixed types
  • Proper error handling for malformed objects

4. Property Access Parser

  • Parse obj.property syntax
  • Parse obj[“property”] syntax
  • Handle nested access (obj.nested.prop)

5. Object Evaluation

  • Evaluate object literals to variables
  • Evaluate property access expressions
  • Convert variables to AST objects
